Memorial Day Weekend can be considered the start of summer but it had a very chilly start. I made sure to get one last recording in before the weekend due to parties are fireworks. The temperature was low 40s and it sounded like one lonely Boreal Chorus Frog was calling.
Now that June has started the weather is warming up but nights are still a little chilly. Lightening bugs sit on the tops of the long grass creating a nice view. My husband walked with me last night and commented on how much the marsh grass has grown. Someone mows around the marsh area which allows me to stand closer to the marsh which is nice. While I can clearly hear the calls there seems to be more noise pollution happening especially from planes. Seems like more flights are in the air now. I’m starting to wonder if I’ve been heading to the marsh around the same time the late flight from Minneapolis to Madison is flying over. The sound carries for awhile and makes the recordings not as nice. Recording the frogs is still a great tool to have so I can enjoy the moment and listen again later. The Green Frogs are nearby in the marsh but any Tree Frogs keep their distance from the marsh and seem to be hanging out in the fields and woods area. My husband and I extend our walk when together and it’s always a joy to hear frog calls in other areas of our walk. We occasionally hear other night creatures making noise.
