Over winter I spent some time learning about the basics of field recording and decide to purchase a lower-cost field recording setup. I wanted something that is very easy to transport since I walk over a mile to the place I monitor for the Wisconsin Field and Toad Survey. Last year I used my cellphone which got the job done but didn’t produce great quality. When recording the calls it gave me the time to enjoy the overall experience, and then I was able to listen to the recording and figure out which frogs were calling. This process also gave me more time to become familiar with the different calls. Hoping in a few weeks the frog will start calling around here. I read some great advice about taking a few moments each day to record any random sounds and learn how the recorder works with different sounds.

The email for the 2022 Wisconsin Frog and Toad Phenology Survey was sent out last week. This is an exciting email to receive. It means the cold weather is about to lift and the night time frogging is about to begin! https://wiatri.net/inventory/frogtoadsurvey/WIfrogs/SpAccounts.cfm
